Behance is hiring a part time/freelance Social Media Copywriter!

The Behance Team (part of the Adobe family) is looking to hire a seasoned copywriter with Social Media Experience. We’re the leading platform to showcase and discover creative work, and are hiring a freelancer whose work will involve describing the creative work found on Behance.net to supplement the content on our Social Media Channels (@Behance, Behance Facebook).

We empower our community to create their best work - to be inspired and delighted by what others are doing in the creative space. That’s where you come in: your job will be to help the internet discover kickass creative work, and inspire creatives to upload their own (while celebrating all the talent that’s already on Behance).

Behance’s Twitter and Facebook accounts have over 1 Million fans and followers, and are top picks in the design category.

The Specifics: Indefinite part-time/freelance position that would require about 5 hours/week. Paid hourly. Fully flexible hours. This position is remote (although our team is NYC based).

Meet the Team: Manny

Who are you and what do you do at Behance?

I’m Manny, a DevOps Engineer with Behance.  My team is responsible for the infrastructure that keeps Behance up and running.  We use a lot of different technologies to guarantee the best experience for the Behance community.  My recent focus has been on building software tools to automate the processes that tie all these technologies together.  Since we are a small team we don’t want to burden ourselves with redundant tasks; automating these tasks is key.

What are three desktop tools you can’t live without?

Macvim: I deal mostly with text and code. Having a good editor is really important.  Vim has been around a long time and has many plugins to handle every task imaginable.  This version, for OSX, does everything I need.

Evernote: This is my “to do list” and my “brain dump”.  Everything that comes my way ends up here in some form or another.  This helps me keep things in order.

Ag - The Silver Searcher: Again, having to deal with so much text, Ag lets me search through all of it quickly and easily.  In my opinion, it’s by far the fastest plain text search tool around.

What have you worked on recently that you’re extra proud of?

We regularly have to roll out changes to our systems to fix issues or improve performance.  Whenever a change has to be made, there is always a risk that those changes may have an unexpected impact.  Recently, I’ve worked towards being able to simulate those changes before we make them on the live site.  This lets us test our new ideas in a safe place without worrying about affecting the site.

What are some startups that you’re a fan of?

Several of the startups that I’ve loved in the past, who have done great engineering work (like Netflix and Etsy) have grown too big to be called startups anymore.  I think they came from great roots and still deserve mention. On the horizon, I see “The Internet of Things” growing everyday. Google is even showing an interest now after their purchase of Nest.  A startup I’m watching in this field is Smartthings.  They are trying to make every device in your house smarter, providing feedback about what’s going on in your home. Since their system can be dropped into any home I think it has the potential to go really far. Another startup that I have to mention is HirePurpose. They are out of NYC and I have had the privilege of working with them before. They have a noble cause and are working with different military branches and government departments to make the lives of veterans better. I am really rooting for their success.

What do you listen to while working?

Recently, I’ve been a big fan of Spotify’s discover page.  It’s one of the places where I discover new music. When I want something more familiar, I’ll go back to my playlists. It’s become an eclectic mix, ranging from Celia Cruz to Porcupine Tree.  Though most recently, I think I’ve been listening to Rocket & The Ghost and the Bastille songs that get less radio time. Bastille’s cover of “Rhythm of the Night” is haunting and brilliant.

Behance Mood Board
Behance Hue Lights: Hue lighting based on the average color of a project cover

Meet the Team: Raewyn

Who are you and what do you do at Behance?
Raewyn Brandon, Rae Rae for my friends. Patterns, music, antiques, wood, flowers, jewelry, color in summer, dark in winter, vintage & eclectic at home, simplicity in my design.

I am the Brand & Communications Designer here at Behance. I spend most of my time designing all of our printed materials. I make sure anything printed that leaves Behance not only communicates a cohesive message, but also looks beautiful and in brand. Some of the work I’ve done lately includes the 99U Conference collateralthe 99U Books, Portfolio Reviews collateral & our Manifesto Letterpress poster.

What are three desktop tools you can’t live without?
1. Illustrator – Lets me create beautiful designs
2. Spotify – Music is my best friend.
3. Creative Cloud – Love seeing notifications as people comment, appreciate & follow my work.

What have you worked on recently that you’re extra proud of?
The design for this years 99U Conference. It was an awesome feeling seeing all the materials come together, and having twice as many people as last year looking at all the designs was extremely rewarding! Oh, and I absolutely loved the fluorescent color we used!

What do you listen to while working?
It depends what I’m working on. Generally I listen to fun upbeat music like Pheonix, Darwin Deez, Postal Service or the Black Keys. When I need to focus, I listen to chilled out stuff like Bon Iver, Kings of Convenience, The National or Radiohead.

Where did you grow up?
Most people know my country as ‘The Shire’. Yup, I’m a proud kiwi! Born and raised in a small town - population 5000 - called Te Kuiti, also known for the mass amount of sheep. Yeah, we have a “running of the sheep” down our main street once a year haha!

See more of Raewyn’s work and keep up with her latest projects on Behance

Meet the Team: Eric

Who are you and what do you do at Behance?
I’m Eric, a member of the product team and the Head of Mobile and Apps here at Behance. My background is in design and my goal is to help visitors access Behance on their phones, tablets and other connected devices, and have a great experience doing so. Day-to-day my job is a mix of design, project management, and the occasional prototyping of new ideas using the Behance API.

What are three desktop tools you can’t live without?
Other than the usual design tools (Photoshop and Illustrator) a few things that keep me organized and productive:
1. Evernote: Notes, ideas, photos for inspiration, screenshots of websites and sketches. Evernote is a backup of my brain.
2. Skitch: An app (desktop/phones/tablets) for marking up screenshots of websites. An easy way to communicate design issues visually and is an incredible timesaver.
3. Xscope: Broadcast your designs from Photoshop to a mobile device. Also includes application independent color pickers, pixel level zoom, rulers and guides.

What have you worked on recently that you’re extra proud of?
A few weeks ago we launched the new 99U website and I’m incredibly happy with how it turned out. It was the first fully responsive site created by Behance and hosts some of the best editorial content on the web. It’s also great to see what we learned rebuilding this site applied to some exciting updates for Behance. Stay tuned!

What do you listen to while working?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Podcasts lately. Radiolab, 99% Invisible and Design Matters are favorites of mine with comedy podcasts from Doug Benson, Aisha Tyler and Kevin Smith mixed in. When I’m deep into a design I often go back to indie rock music from the late 90′s like Braid, Burning Airlines or the Poster Children.

What are some startups that you’re a fan of?
I’m a huge fan of startups that are making things simple that were complex a few years (or even months) ago. Tumblr, Simple, Square, Aereo, Zite, Uber. Companies that have a mobile focus and give their users exactly what they want, when they want it.

Quick Update: Behance & Adobe (& Some Creative Cloud News)

Scott Belsky, Co-Founder & Head of Behance, VP - Product-Community, Adobe

We became part of the Adobe family a few months ago. While we have a lot of new acronyms and systems to learn, we’ve been pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome and bounty of ideas from across the company. There is also a strong desire to better understand the creative community’s needs, take a more design-centric approach to product, and support the creative process in new ways. Adobe reaches millions of creative people around the world every day, and our team at Behance has the opportunity to help connect the creative world throughout the creative process. We feel at home, and now we’ve got a lot of work to do!

In the year ahead, here’s what you can expect from our team at Behance:

  1. The Behance platform is going to get a lot better, faster, and offer even more exposure for your work. We have a full roadmap of improvements and features that help you connect with your peers and with career opportunity. We’re excited.
  2. We will start integrating some of Behance’s best community features into Adobe tools. Want feedback? Adding new work to your portfolio? We want to make this more efficient and more integrated into your everyday workflow. Stay tuned for updates in May!
  3. We have grand plans for ProSite - and other “Pro” features - that will make Behance a more powerful utility for creative careers. We’ve got a long list of enhancements and features that will bring online portfolios to a whole new level.

We are also working closely with our new colleagues at Adobe to make the “Creative Cloud” offering more integrated into our everyday workflow. For those of you that don’t know, Creative Cloud is a subscription service for all of Adobe’s creative applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, and the list goes on…) for a low monthly fee. Creative Cloud also keeps your applications up-to-date with frequent updates and new features as they are ready (no more waiting 16+ months for the latest and greatest). But the vision for Creative Cloud is about much more than the apps themselves. Ultimately, the service should make the entire creative process more seamless and collaborative. The roadmap ahead is amazing, and we hope to share updates in a few months.

Over time, we also want to offer some of the best benefits of Behance as part of Adobe’s Creative Cloud service. Starting today, ProSite (normally $99/year) will be available at no additional cost for Creative Cloud paid members. For those of you that don’t know, ProSite transforms your public Behance portfolio into a fully customized personal portfolio site with your own URL. You can design an incredible portfolio site that stays in sync with your projects on Behance, increasing your efficiency and helping your work get more exposure from Behance’s 18+ Million visitors every month.

If you’re ready to get started building and customizing your Behance ProSite, just a few quick steps:

  1. Login and go to the Apps page on creative.adobe.com
  2. Find the ProSite icon under “Other Services” and click on the “Get Started” link
  3. You’ll be brought to the ProSite welcome page on Behance, where you can either log in or sign up for Behance to build your portfolio and launch your ProSite when you’re ready

We will be offering additional “Pro” features over the coming year, and these will also be made available to all Creative Cloud paid members. If you want to learn more about the Creative Cloud offering, visit http://creative.adobe.com.

Needless to say, this is just the beginning… Our team at Behance is working on some of the most exciting projects of our professional lives right now. We can’t wait to show you.
